With low donor rates, disengaged youth, and steep barriers to free and equitable blood donation, America's blood supply is in big trouble. It's time we do something about it.
We are the University Blood Initiative. We saw the low youth engagement and the lack of education about our nation's unstable and inequitable blood supply, and we decided to do something about it. It's hard to solve a problem if no one's talking about it, so here we are.
By creating chapters on university campuses and within local communities, we are empowering, educating, and mobilizing a network of young donors across the country to build a better future for blood donation. Since the official launch of our chapter model in Fall 2020, we have established 17 university chapters across the nation, gained the support of 20 partnering local blood centers, and have over 600 passionate volunteers nationwide.
Together, we can make our blood supply sustainable and equitable.
